Pregnancy carries a great deal of changes to the female body. The body gains mass, the belly gets bigger, and the breasts too start preparing themselves to feed the newborn. When the mammary glands become active, the breast size increases and you do not fit in your sexy bras anymore. Do not get overwhelmed; you have got it. The bras that you wear when pregnant aren’t the same as your usual plunge bras or sports bras. The stock of hot bras you used to own look like a waste now, and another worrisome thought takes over you—you need to buy maternity bras now.

Wearing the Right Maternity Bra Is Vital

A maternity bra or nursing bra is not like your sexy bras, like your plunge bras and sports bras that you’ve collected all these years. They are a special kind of bra designed for women who are lactating and breastfeeding. These bras have cups that have flaps; these flaps can be removed to uncover the nipples without removing the entire bra. It provides support and makes breastfeeding a lot easier. The flaps on the maternity bras are attached with hooks or clasps that can be easily removed.

Buying a maternity bra is a lot harder than buying your usual hot bras, plunge bras, or sports bras for women. So, the list that follows is of the things that you need to know when you buy a maternity bra.

Buy the right size

The graphic highlights four considerations: the right size for better support and comfort, good-quality breathable and durable fabric, buying during the last trimester for a stable fit, and choosing 4 to 6 adjustable hooks as the body changes. Decorative hearts, floral elements, and soft pink accents surround the content.

A lot of women make one common and very big mistake when buying a nursing bra: not finding the right size for them. The reason being—them not knowing their size or they really want a certain bra that is not available in their size. One size over or under makes a lot of difference when it comes to bras. Wearing the right bra size is very important, as a perfect-fitting maternity bra offers you support and is comfortable. While if you wear a bigger bra, it will not offer proper support, and a bra smaller than your breast size can cause harm to your soft breast tissues and dig into your skin.

Buy good-quality bras

Most women hesitate in spending big bucks on maternity bras, as they are to be used for a short period of time. But buying a good-quality nursing bra is very important. A good quality maternity that is made of good fabric, has better elasticity, and is made of breathable material ensures that you are comfortable wearing them through the pregnancy and when you start lactating. You should also know that you might have to sleep wearing these bras, so buy the ones you are comfortable in and the bra is really breathable.

Buy at the right time

Purchasing the bra at the ideal opportunity is vital. Do not go hunting for the right bra in the first month trying to stock up early by guessing how big you might get, or do not wait until it is too late and you do not have any bras to wear. The ideal opportunity to purchase a maternity bra is during the last trimester. At around the eighth month of the pregnancy, the bosoms are completely ready for lactating. They have reached a stable size and will stay the same till 8 weeks after the birth of the baby. So, the right time to buy a nursing bra is the final trimester.

Buy bras with 4 to 6 hooks

When you buy a bra during the 8th month, it should fit the last hook of a 4-hooked bra. This would allow you to tighten the bra post-birth, when the rib cage starts contracting. The back band is an important support factor when it comes to bras and offers the most support to your back when carrying your breasts and reduces the chances for back pain. You also need to know that your breast size will keep changing throughout the pregnancy and the first year of giving birth, so you might need to buy two different sets of bras of different sizes.
